People in the State are waiting for the ‘Bathuku Telangana’ which they dreamt of during the Telangana agitation but has not been realised even after the new state was formed, Telangana Joint Action (TJAC) committee chairman M. Kodandaram said.

Addressing a gathering after commencing ‘Telangana Amarula Spoorthi Yatra’ (Telangana Martyrs Inspiration Tour) here on Wednesday, Prof. Kodandaram said that the present regime in the State has failed to meet the aspiration of the people and all sections, including farmers, unemployed and youth, were a disappointed lot.

“They are treating me like a stranger and asking me who I am? We were witness to the suicide by Ishanth Reddy at Osmania University, Yadi Reddy at New Delhi and Lakshmaiah at BHEL demanding the formation of Telangana State. Did we get the Telangana that was visualised and demanded by these martyrs?” asked Prof. Kodandaram. There are some 2 lakh government jobs that are vacant but are not being filled by the government, he pointed out.

‘CM not accessible’

“When an elephant was caught by crocodile and called out for help Lord rushed to the rescue of his devotee leaving the company of Goddess Lakshmi. But here our Chief Minister stays confined to either his farm house or Pragati Bhavan. What happened to the double bedroom houses and land for Dalits?” he asked suggesting the people to question the ruling party leaders on the subject.

He said that the members of the Telangana Joint Action Committee were forced to come to public with all these issues as the government failed to even give an appointment to their members.

Grabbing land

Charging the government with forcibly grabbing land from farmers, the TJAC leader said that government should have instead requested them to part with their lands.

“While Mission Bhagiratha can be completed with about ₹16,000 crore the amount being spent by the government is about ₹46,000 crore to benefit the contractors. Question the leaders and grill them,” he said.

The four-day yatra would reach Siddipet covering several parts in the old Medak district on June 24. Earlier in the day, a rally was held from Sangareddy chowrasta to the town.
