Union Minister for Urban Development, M. Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday said he was confident of the Bharatiya Janata Party victory in the coming New Delhi Assembly Assembly elections and forming the Government.

Speaking to presspersons on the sidelines of the 56th National Cost Convention 2015 here, he said that the confidence stemmed from the fact that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had shirked the responsibility given by the people and the faith that they had reposed in it. “The AAP had clearly thrown away the mandate given by the people for it to govern and gave up the opportunity. So I do not see any reason why people will support it again,” he stated, categorically.

Mr. Naidu also refered to the AAP leaders' coming out openly against the party leadership and founder Aravind Kejriwal and said that former Union Minister and eminent lawyer Shantibhushan’s recent comments only vindicated this fact.

Asked about the controversy over the preamble of the Constitution with regard to the words secular and socialist, he said that every Indian was by default ‘secular’ and that there was no need for specifically mentioning the words. The original preamble did not have it anyway, he said, adding that the said words were introduced during the Emergency Rule by late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
