Walmart enters Karimnagar

Two more stores to be opened in Warangal and Nizamabad soon

Walmart India opened its first B2B cash-and-carry store on the outskirts of the town on Wednesday, which is also the second in Telangana and 24th in the country.

The president and CEO of Walmart India, Krish Iyer, along with IT Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan and Collector Sarfaraz Ahmad inaugurated the store. Spread over 50,000 square feet, the store would provide direct and indirect employment to 2,000 persons and would sell about 5,500 products.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Iyer said they have signed an MoU with the Telangana government to open 10 stores in the State. Apart from the ones opened in Hyderabad and Karimnagar, three more stores would be opened in Warangal and Nizamabad in the coming days. “We are planning to open a second store in Hyderabad in a year,” he added.

Mr. Iyer said the Walmart store in Karimnagar has received tremendous response as more than 26,000 persons have already enrolled as members. Mr. Ranjan asked the Walmart India authorities to opt for local-sourcing to benefit the local farmers. He also suggested them to start the store’s ancillary units in the town to provide employment to local youth. The Collector said Karimnagar was the fastest growing city in the State after Hyderabad. He said the Walmart store in the town would be of great help to small traders and farmers.
