Vigilance probe ordered into misuse of BPS

September 20, 2011 11:23 am | Updated 11:23 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The government has directed the Directorate of Vigilance and Enforcement to probe into the misuse of the Building Penalisation Scheme (BPS) where several illegal buildings were constructed under its guise in the twin cities under the jurisdiction of the GHMC.

The order is following a communication sent by the GHMC Commissioner requesting such a probe following unearthing of several cases in places like Kukatpally and other areas where buildings had come up backdating clearances under the BPS.

Senior officials suspect that some of the town planning staff had colluded with the builders in taking BPS clearance certificates and then allowing constructions to come up. Already, the Anti-Corruption Bureau is looking into the building permissions given in the last five years following a High Court directive.

About 70 building files pertaining to high rise constructions of five floors and more cleared in the head office have been sourced by the ACB sleuths. They have reportedly scanned 250 files. Eight teams have been scouring over the files in the last few days and one town planning official each has been attached to respective teams.
