Death of a pet dog at Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s official residence, Pragati Bhavan, led to the animal’s handler lodging a complaint with Banjara Hills police alleging that ‘Husky’ died of medical negligence.
Doctors Ranjith and Lakshmi of Animal Care Clinic, Banjara Hills, had been booked under Section 419 (mischief by killing or maiming cattle) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 11-1 (treating animals cruelly) of The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Dog had high fever
In his police complaint, Asif Ali Khan, handler of pets at Pragati Bhavan, stated that on September 10, 11-month-old Husky suddenly fell sick and was running a high temperature.
When it did not drink milk the next day morning, the handler informed the regular veterinarian, who reached the CM’s official residence and examined it.
“Husky was running 101 Fahrenheit temperature and the doctor gave a liver tonic to it, after which its health started deteriorating,” Mr. Asif Ali said.
Around 9.30 p.m. on September 11, the pet was rushed to Animal Care Clinic, where it suffered breathlessness and died while being treated by Dr. Ranjith. Based on the complaint, police registered a case and a probe is on.
There are nine pet dogs at Pragati Bhavan and Mr. Asif Ali and Sujauddin look after them. Banjara Hills police were unwilling to disclose information about the incident and maintained that so far no arrests were made.
