Consul General of India in Chicago Ausaf Sayeed suggested the use of digital technology, including mobile and desktop applications, to learn and practice the Urdu language. He urged the current generation to improve their command over their mother tongue.

Dr. Sayeed was launching the book Urdu Media: Kal, Aaj, Kal written by eminent Urdu journalist Syed Fazil Hussain Parvez, chief editor of Urdu weekly Gawah , here on Sunday.

Reference volume

The 400-page volume gives a glimpse into the past, present and foreseeable future of Urdu journalism. It promises to be a reference point for budding Urdu journalists, since it includes a glossary of legal, literary, medical and social terminology along with their English translation.

The programme was organised by Gawah and Media Plus.Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Parvez called for the promotion of Urdu in missionary schools, colleges and universities to promote and perpetuate it.

“The future of Urdu journalism depends on the economic prosperity of Urdu journalists,” he remarked, and wanted that Urdu journalists be given their rightful due and their services recognised.
