A U.S.-India military exercise, that began in the city recently, saw the first and second battalion of special forces stationed in Japan conducting a joint exercise with Indian national security guards.

The Hyderabad exercise is expected to build interoperability and comradeship between the two forces and is designed to enhance the capabilities of both the Indian and U.S. armed forces.

According to a release issued by the U.S. Consulate, the training focuses on mutual defence operations. The exercise would be overseen by the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi and the U.S. Special Operations Pacific Command at Camp HM Smith in Hawaii.

Strong partnership

“The U.S.-India security partnership is strong and is growing stronger,” said the U.S. Consul-General, Katherine Hadda. The Consulate also said that the planning was on to further the U.S.-India military partnership.

The current training programme is critical to U.S. Special Operations Forces, as soldiers learn how to effectively work with Indian partners in new environments.

“The aim of the programme is to enhance professionalism and the ability to operate together during crisis,” a release issued by the U.S. Consulate said.
