Uppal MLA of BJP N.V.S.S. Prabhakar was prevented from taking to protest against externment of cleric Swami Paripoornananda. The MLA claimed he was put under house arrest, which the police denied.

Mr. Prabhakar announced he would take a rally out from Habsiguda junction to Nacharam junction at 10 a.m. on Saturday to support the cleric and protest the Hyderabad Police Commissioner’s move. Swami Paripoornananda was externed earlier this week by the police that claimed his actions could be hurtful. The legislator told The Hindu that cops arrived at his Ramanthapur residence and prevented him from taking out the rally.

“Rachakonda Police cancelled the permission and said prohibitory orders are in place from July 13 to July 19. After I participated in a television show, I was placed under house arrest at 9 a.m.,” Mr. Prabhakar said. Though a large posse of policemen were seen outside the MLA’s residence, the Rachakonda Police denied that he was placed under house arrest.

“We served him notice of prohibitory orders. The MLA chose to stay at home,” said Assistance Commissioner of Police, Malkajigiri, G. Sundeep.
