Dejected over the failure in examination, a first-year post-graduate student of the University of Hyderabad allegedly jumped to death from the terrace of an apartment complex at Nallagandla near the University campus, police said.

S Harshita (21), a student of MSc Biology, took the extreme step minutes after sending a mobile message to her mother, Anuradha, stating that she was unable to cope with the curriculum, said Miyapur ACP S.Ravi Kumar. She was resident of East Marredpally in Secunderabad and failed in a subject in the recently held examinations. “The victim’s mother told us that Harshita was suffering from depression and was under medication,” he said. On Thursday, around noon, she gained entry to Hima Sai Lake View apartment at Nallagandla, after giving false information to the security. She directly went to the terrace and jumped from the building, the ACP said. No suicide note was found. The body was shifted to Gandhi Hospital for autopsy.
