Decade-long underground drainage (UGD) project would be completed in a phased manner, said MLA Bigala Ganesh Gupta, adding that efforts are on to connect the UGD with the drain pipelines drawn from households.

He was inaugurating the second sewage treatment plant (STP) built at a cost of ₹15 crore at Yellammagutta here on Monday.

He said the first STP with a capacity of 31.5 million litres per day at Dubba was commissioned two months ago.

On the occasion, Collector M. Ram Mohan Rao said underground drainage facility and sewage treatment plants are present only in metro cities and therefore it was a pride for the residents here. With the completion of this work, mosquito menace would be minimised, he added.
