Two women drugged and robbed at Tirumala

Two aged women were allegedly drugged and robbed of their jewellery by unidentified youth here on Thursday.

In their complaint to the police, the women reportedly said they were drugged by two unidentified youth who came to their suite in the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams’ new Kousthubham guest house on Wednesday evening. After some polite talk, they offered the women a beverage, which made them fall unconscious.

Taking advantage of their condition, the youth decamped with about ten sovereigns of gold ornaments that they found on the women’s bodies.

The incident came to light when pilgrims lodged in the adjacent suites noticed the doors of the women’s room ajar and informed TTD vigilance and security guards. Police found the women in a semi-conscious state and rushed them to the TTD’s SV Aswini Hospital.

The records kept at the reception desk of the guest house revealed that the two women are from Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. However, police said the duo were yet to provide them details as they were still under the influence of the sedative they were given.

Police are optimistic that the CCTV cameras set up at the guest house will give them with vital leads.
