Laxmi Sahiti Reddy and Adithi Are in the girls under-18 category have earned the privilege to feature in the second edition of the Tennis Premier League to be held in Mumbai from December 12 to 15.

The duo bagged the opportunity given their performances in the Talent Day competitions held at the Ace Tennis Academy here in which about 180 players in the under-18 and under-14 categories participated.

Following draw of lots, Adithi will join Finecab Hyderabad Strikers while Sahiti will be part of Bengaluru Hawks in the TPL.

Adithi is currently training at Vijay Tennis Academy while Sahiti, who hails from Pulivendla (Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh), has been training at Teegala Tennis Academy. The latter recently won an all-India tournament in Bengaluru and also clinched gold in the School Games Federation of India tennis championship.

“We are excited to get the chance to be in TPL and hopefully will become much better players by way of exposure to the training methods of the big names and also by sharing thoughts with them,” the young duo said.

In boys under-14 section, Ch. Vibhu made it to the Bengaluru Hawks and K. Sree Sharan to Finecab Hyderabad Strikers.

Former national player S. Narendranath, who is the mentor of Hyderabad Strikers, felt the whole concept of Talent Day would give a platform to the young talent to showcase their skills, leading to big opportunities such as playing in the TPL.

Brij Gopal Bhutada, owner of Hyderabad Strikers, presented a purse of ₹20,000 to the players and also informed that the two young tennis players will be given complete support.

Actor and entrepreneur Mrunal Jain revealed that this time around wheelchair tennis would be introduced in the TPL. “The top eight players in this category would be called for selections. The deserving ones will be chosen for TPL to give them a feel of what big-time tennis means,” he said.
