In two separate incidents, two small farmers, including a woman, attempted to end life alleging that the authorities turned a deaf ear to their complaints as regards land issues, despite several representations.
At the office of the Revenue Divisional Officer, Bodhan, one Neeradi Abbavva of Taggilli in Bodhan mandal, doused kerosene and tried to set herself ablaze. However, the visiting public and office staff foiled her attempt and called the police.
Later, she said that though she inherited 1.03 acre land in survey number 137 from her late husband Lalaiah, and despite availing Rythu Bandhu scheme and Prime Minister Kisan Samman Scheme, she could not get digital title deed till now. Instead, in the latest records, it is shown that the land was transferred to a shepherd, she said.
Meanwhile, the RDO said that he would do justice to her after an inquiry.
In the second incident, on the Collectorate premises here, in front of Pragathi Bhavan, one Ankam Gangadhar, a marginal farmer of Dubbaka in Darpally mandal, climbed a huge neem tree with a rope in hands and threatened to end life. However, visitors and police were successful in prevailing upon him to come down. He said that despite petitioning several officers to resolve a land dispute between him and his younger brother, Santhosh, they did not take up the issue. Since Monday is ‘grievance redressal day’, many farmers approached the authorities to petition their problems.
