Two held in cases of bike burning

March 23, 2012 09:47 am | Updated 11:49 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Police on Thursday solved two of the 12 cases of burning bikes reported at different places in old city in past three months after arresting two persons.

While a family member of the bike owner turned out to be the accused in a case reported in Madannapet, a labourer was caught for torching bike of a jewellery shop owner at Rikabgunj.

An electrician, Mohd. Shakeel, admitted to have set afire the bike of his elder brother's son two days ago.

Shakeel had differences with his brother's wife and other family members.

He wanted to harass them by burning the bike and believed that police would not suspect his role since he was a family member of the bike owner.

“The accused also thought investigators would believe persons responsible for 11 other similar cases was behind the Madannapet incident and the police would be clueless about his role,” the South zone DCP, Manish Kumar Sinha, said. The second accused, Santosh Swamy, is a pavement dweller from Begumbazar.

“At times, he behaves strangely. On March 16, he cut the petrol pipe of the bike parked on roadside at Rikabgunj, collected petrol in a plastic cover and set the bike on fire,” Charminar ACP, Rammohan Rao, said.
