January 24, 2014 11:41 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 08:06 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Two children were rescued from forced labour on Friday after Labour Department officials conducted surprise checks on two commercial establishments near Yousufguda.

One of the boys Basavaiah, aged 10, was found working in Happy Tiffin Centre in Venkatagiri, while the other boy Bobby, aged 11, worked in a tea stall in the same area

Labour officials along with the Child Welfare Committee members and representatives of Childline, an NGO, conducted raids on a tip off from local residents.

Both the children have been sent to the transit home for boys in Saidabad.

As Basavaiah’s work fits the description of hazardous occupation as per the Child Labour Act, a notice for Rs.20,000 as compensation has been served to the employer following the Supreme Court’s directions. Besides, notices have also been issued to recover the difference between minimum and actual wages from the employers, Mr. Gangadhar said.
