TVS Srichakra to launch radial motorcycle tyres in two months

TVS Srichakra Limited will be launching radial motorcycle tyres in a couple of months.

According to the company Director P. Vijayaraghavan, the producer of TVS Tyres is currently working on the radial motorcycle tyres, which would initially cater to the needs of the expanding high-end motorcycles market.

TVS Srichakra, a part of the Chennai-based $ 8 billion TVS Group, has recently launched tractor rear radial tyres in Europe, which were stated to have been well received in Agritechnica and Reifin shows in Germany. Now, it was working on expanding its range of radials.

The company has posted a turnover of Rs. 1,700 crore in 2014-15. In the current year, the company had invested Rs. 150 crore over expansion of the combined capacity of its two plants in Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand from 2 million to 2.3 million units a month.

He told The Hindu that the growth rate of the two-wheeler tyres industry would gain momentum in 2016-17 though it had declined steeply in the current financial year. At present, the market size for two wheeler tyres was estimated 7.5 million units a month.

The industry recorded just 1 to 1.5 per cent growth rate during the first three quarters of the current year as against a growth rate of 7.8 per cent in 2013-14 and 9.8 per cent in 2014-15. The growth rate is stated to have declined this year due to a dip in the demand for two wheelers in the rural sector.
