Telangana would unveil incentives, as a measure, to encourage green buildings after elections, a senior official of the State government said on the eve of the prestigious Green Building Congress.
Requests for incentives are pending and “I am aware and informed that a decision will be taken to make the ECBC (Energy Conservation Building Code) movement more sustainable,” Ajay Mishra, Special Chief Secretary (Energy) said here on Wednesday.
He was addressing a curtain raiser event of Green Building Congress 2018, an event spread over three days, from November 1, being organised by CII-Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) in the city.
Economic sustainability
Speaking after IGBC leaders, who led by Chairman V.Suresh, sought incentives to propel the green building movement, Mr. Mishra said since the model code for elections is in force, the government cannot announce the incentives now. “But, I am confident that in the next few months after election, the government will be coming out with incentives mainly on the lines mentioned,” he said, adding they are expected to contribute to economic sustainability of the housing projects.
Impact fee
Among the incentives sought by IGBC was a reduction in permit, development and impact fee to the extent of 20%; in the property tax as well as in the water and energy tariff.
Mr. Mishra also listed measures initiated by the State government to promote greenery, including Haritha Haram scheme. The State was also a leader in solar energy production with 3,400 MW and planned to add 500 MW in coming months, he added.
The IGBC, which now has 22 green building rating systems, would be adding three more, Mr. Suresh said.
One of the three, for Hill Habitats, was released at the curtain raiser, the others for Net Zero Energy Buildings and Green Resorts Rating system would be launched at the Congress, which is scheduled to be inaugurated by Union Minister of State (Housing and Urban Affairs) Hardeep Singh Puri.
Awards were also presented at the programme on Wednesday, including IGBC Gold rating (Green Landscape rating) to Botanical Gardens in the city.
