TS to promote use of AI in multiple sectors

IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao on Friday said the Telangana government would declare 2020 as the year of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to promote the use of the technology in various sectors, including agriculture, urban transportation and healthcare.

The government would host a series of events through the year centered around AI, the Minister said during a meeting with IT industry body Nasscom president Debjani Ghosh at Pragathi Bhavan here.

Emerging technologies

An official release said Mr. Rao highlighted various initiatives that the government has taken up in the field of emerging technologies. Telangana, he said, is attracting investments from marquee companies. The entities are setting up their research and technology development centres in emerging technologies such as IoT, AI, Machine Learning, Cyber Security and Blockchain.

The State government is happy to collaborate with Nasscom in bridging the skill gap in these emerging technology sectors, the Minister said.

Ms. Ghosh said Nasscom would be delighted to collaborate with the Telangana government in launching AI applications in various sectors and also creating an ecosystem for start-ups to implement these AI applications.

Nasscom, she said, is proactively preparing a list of new job roles getting created in the emerging technology space.

It would also be interested in partnering with the government on the Open Data initiative and in skilling youngsters in Data Sciences.

IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan and other officials were also present during the meeting.
