The State Government has decided to procure every meter of its fabric requirement from the handlooms and powerlooms across Telangana so as to ensure work for the weavers year-long. The policy announcement was made by Minister for Textiles and Industries K.T. Rama Rao in the annual calender for fabric procurement released by the Textiles Department here on Tuesday.

The decision was taken with an objective to provide work to weavers all through the year, the minister said.

Production plans

The annual calender would specify the month-wise requirement of particular variety of fabric so that the weavers can procure the raw material and prepare production plans in advance in tune with the procurement schedule.

The decision would help the weavers of Sircilla, which has the highest number of powerlooms in the State, get regular work and remunerative price for their produce.

The Minister stated that orders were issued to procure required quality of fabric for Rajiv Vidya Mission (RVM) Scheme from Sircilla at lower prices.

It will also help the powerloom workers overcome the crisis they were in for past many years. The fabric was procured from other States till last year.

Keeping that experience in mind, the decision to procure all fabric required for government schemes from the looms in the State was taken.

According to the calender, Bathukamma sarees would be procured from May to August, Social Welfare Department requirement and uniforms for the School Education Department would be procured from December to March, clothes distributed during Christmas would be procured in October and fabrics needed for Ramzan distribution would be procured in April.

Work order

The Minister explained that 1.2 crore metres of fabric would be procured for RVM, 30 lakh metres for Social Welfare Department, 36 lakh metres for Ramzan, 27 lakh metres for Christmas and another 25 lakh metres for KCR Kits and other needs.
