As assured, the State government has sent a cheque for ₹25 crore on Sunday as assistance for victims of flood-hit Kerala.

Home Minister N. Narsimha Reddy, who flew to Thiruvananthapuram, gave the cheque to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on behalf of the State government.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao was among the first to respond to the crisis gripping Kerala and announced assistance for taking up relief operations.

The Home Minister handed over the cheque drawn in favour of the CM’s relief fund. In addition, the State has also despatched 50 reverse osmosis (RO) machines worth ₹2.5 crore to the rain-battered State enabling the government to provide clean drinking water to victims. The machines were sent to Kerala by a defence aircraft on Sunday afternoon.

The assistance is in addition to 100 tonnes of Balamrutam, baby food for children below three years, that was sent on Saturday. The ready-to-eat nutritious food was manufactured by the Telangana Foods at its Nacharam facility and can feed 50,000 children for about 10 days.

MPs’ contribution

The TRS Parliamentary party has resolved to contribute ₹20 lakh to flood victims, with each of its members giving up one-month salary.

The Parliamentary party leader, K. Keshava Rao, and TRS leader in Lok Sabha A.P. Jithender Reddy told a news conference here on Sunday that all the 14 Lok Sabha members and six Rajya Sabha members of the party have decided to pool their one-month salary and remit it to Kerala CM’s relief fund.
