TS on ABB radar for a new plant

Firm plans to focus on EV charging infra, robotics tech

ABB India, which caters to a host of industries through 47 factories across nine locations in the country, may consider Telangana for its next production facility.

“As we expand our footprint, Telangana would be one of the States top of the list,” country MD-ABB India Sanjeev Sharma said on Monday.

The company, upbeat about the growth prospects from the areas of electric vehicle charging infrastructure as well as robotics technology focused on industrial automation and for railways, is impressed with the State government’s policies on industrial developments.

Mr. Sharma, who earlier met Industries and IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, said the industrial policies of Telangana are progressive. “We do find the overall environment created in Telangana very positive,” Mr. Sharma said.

The company, he replied to a query, would take a decision on its next manufacturing facility and the location in all probability next year, when more greenfield facilities are expected to be announced by its customers. When that happens “we have a natural reason to expand,” he added.

On ABB India’s exports, He added the company exported to around 100 countries. Exports, he added, was around 16% of its revenue. The company, which had posted revenues of around ₹9,200 crore, typically has a capital expenditure of upto $100 million every year.
