Thanks to the Armed Forces Preparatory Degree College for women, a significant number of marginalised women from Telangana would be joining the forces in the officer cadre in the coming years, said Minister for Social Welfare Koppula Eshwar on Wednesday.
Launching the military obstacle course and state-of-the-art gymnasium at the Social Welfare Residential Degree College for Women at Bhongir, he said that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao was committed towards the upliftment of marginalised women through several quality education and skill upgradation programmes under the KG-PG mission.
He thanked the Chief Minister for launching the first ever Armed Forces Preparatory Degree College for women in the country.
“No state in the country has embarked on such a transformative mission to prepare marginalised women for officer rank positions in the Indian Army, paramilitary and other security forces,” he said.
Earlier, the Minister was accorded ceremonial guard of honour by the students who also showcased their military skills. He congratulated secretary R.S. Praveen Kumar and the staff for introducing path-breaking programmes aimed at imparting skills to students necessary to compete with the best in the country and running specialised institutions, including the social welfare sainik school, social welfare fine arts school and so on.
“All these initiatives are golden lettered moments in the history of the government education sector in India,” he added.
Dr. Kumar thanked the Telangana government and KCR for significantly increasing budget allocations for welfare residential educational institutions and ensuring that poor students acquire higher education.
“This has helped daughters and sons of daily labourers, masons, agricultural labourers, roadside tea sellers and vegetable vendors, secure admissions in large numbers every year in top notch IITs, NITs, medical colleges, Delhi University, Indian Maritime university, IISER, IIHM and TISS, among others,” he said.
