TRS lobs the ball in Opposition court

October 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has alleged that the Opposition parties have been crying hoarse on the issue of farmers’ problems forgetting the situation in the States ruled by them.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, party leader Gattu Ramachandra Rao said the TDP has no moral right to speak on farmers’ problems as it was that party which destroyed agriculture sector in Telangana. The TDP had a history of killing farmers in police firing when they took up an agitation seeking free power, he said, and asked the TDP leaders why they are not speaking on farmers’ suicides taking place in Andhra Pradesh. Similarly, the Congress and BJP too are doing the same instead of infusing confidence among the farming community in distress, the TRS leader said, and questioned them why they are silent on farmers’ suicides taking place in Karnataka and Maharashtra. It is due to the anti-farmer policies pursued by successive governments at the Centre and in States the situation had arisen, he said.

Mr. Ramachandra Rao questioned TDP, Congress and BJP whether they had implemented farm loan waiver at one go in any of the States ruled by them ever. It is the Centre that had implemented the scheme a couple of times, he said.
