Travel agent dupes 3,500 pilgrims, nabbed

A travel agent, who allegedly duped over 3,500 Umrah and Ziarath pilgrimage applicants to the tune of ₹10 crore was arrested by the Central Crime Station police of Hyderabad here on Friday.

The accused, Sayyed Altaf Hussain alias Saheb of ‘Karwane Syed-Us-Sajidin (AS) Umrah & Ziyarath Tours and Travels Pvt Ltd’, collected nearly ₹10 crore from pilgrims at his Dabeerpura branch office, which was opened last year, and cheated them, said DCP (DD) Avinash Mohanty. The accused appointed Mirza Asadullah Baig as the branch manager and made wide publicity of packages for Umrah and Ziarath sending them on low price for ₹25,000, ₹30,000 and ₹36,000 for Umrah and ₹18,000 and ₹25,000 for Ziarath. Saheb is involved in nine cases at various police stations in neighbouring AP, Mr. Mohanty said.
