Transco charges first 400KV sub-station of Kaleshwaram project

As a step forward towards the State Government plans to pump Kaleshwaram project water to Sriramsagar reservoir during the coming monsoon season, the charging of 400KV sub-station at Ramadugu in package-eight was taken up without any hiccups on Sunday.

Installation of 139MW capacity pumps at the Ramadugu pumping station is in progress and the sub-station linked to is the first such facility to be completed and commissioned as part of Kaleshwaram project. The process of charging was taken up under the supervision of Director (lift irrigation schemes) of Transmission Corporation of Telangana Ltd J. Surya Prakash and Executive Director P.V. Prabhakar Rao.

It is one of the six 400KV sub-stations being set up for Kaleshwaram project, Mr. Surya Prakash said adding that the project would also have eight 220KV, two 132KV and one 33KV sub-stations, taking the total to 17. The 400KV sub-stations are being constructed at Sundilla, Medaram, Thippapur, Chandalapur and Thukkapur.

Similarly, the 220KV sub-stations are coming at Medigadda, Annaram, Sundiall, Akkaram, Markuk, Masani, Manchippa and Sarangapur and the 132KV sub-stations at Dharmaram and Khanapur. Advisor to Government on lift irrigation projects K. Penta Reddy explained that pump houses having more than 500MW demand would have 400KV sub-stations, where the demand is less than 500MW they would have 220KV sub-stations and where the load is less than 100MW, such pumping stations would have 132KV sub-stations.

Although the total capacity would be 4,800MW the consumption would only be 80% of it or 3,840 MW. On the Transco's plans for commissioning the other sub-stations, Mr. Prakash said the construction and charging of sub-stations in link one and two would be completed by July-end and the construction and charging of sub-stations in link four would be done by September-end.

Minister T. Harish Rao has complimented Transco and Irrigation officials for taking up the charging of Ramadugu sub-station successfully and wanted them to completing remaining sub-stations with the same spirit.
