e-commerce major Amazon opened a 20,000 sq. ft. delivery station, its largest such in Telangana, at Gachibowli on Wednesday.

A facility to improve last-mile delivery capabilities, it would help the firm serve customers in the fast-developing localities in Ranga Reddy district such as Gachibowli better and support the growing volume of orders.

Industries and IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, inaugurating the facility, urged Amazon to consider developing the next such facility in another part of the city as its largest in the country. At present, Amazon’s largest delivery centre is around 26,000 sq. ft. and located in Bengaluru.

Hyderabad, he added, by the virtue of its central location, has the potential to emerge as the logistics hub of the country.

Director-last mile transportation of Amazon India, Prakash Rochlani, said expansion of the infrastructure associated with delivery, technology innovations and upskilling of people would continue to be the focus for the company. The firm’s network in Telangana comprises three fulfilment centres in Hyderabad with more than 3.2 million cubic feet of storage space; two sort centres here with 100,000 square feet of processing capacity; and nearly 90 Amazon-owned and service partner delivery stations across the State. It has also partnered with close to 2,500 ‘I Have Space’ stores.

Stating that the network in the State was being expanded over the last two to three months, he said it was done for Amazon to penetrate further into smaller towns across Telangana. It now has a direct delivery presence in more than 500 pin codes of the State, with many of the customers now able to get products delivered in one or two days.
