Students of the TISS-Hyderabad students have decided to intensify their strike till their demands are met, and, as part of it, six students will go on an indefinite hunger strike till the Registrar comes to Hyderabad to address their concern.
The students said delay in the Registrar’s visit would only lead to more students joining the hunger strike. Members of the Students’ Action Committee (SAC) and Students Council said TISS-Mumbai had ignored the issues raised by students last month itself.
A statement issued by students said the attitude of TISS-Mumbai towards concerns off-campus reflected a larger structural problem in TISS’ administrative machinery, and the heavy centralisation would only mar academic potential and general welfare of students off-campus.
They claimed that the Deputy Director wrote an e-mail, categorically pointing out “miscommunication”, “misunderstanding”, and “misinterpretation” between the TISS-Hyderabad administration and students regarding the issue of scholarship.
Moreover, the Social Protection Council (SPC) asked the Registrar to meet students of Hyderabad campus, but he claimed to be busy.
