The L.B. Nagar police have arrested three engineering students and a dropout from a polytehcnic in connection with a spree of chain-snatchings in which they were involved. They committed 18 offences and used the proceeds from sale of chains on alcohol, cigarettes and ganja, and leading a luxurious life, said Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M. Bhagwat. He said 540 grams of gold, worth ₹17 lakh, was recovered from their possession.
The offenders were Chavan Suraj (21), pursuing B.Tech at CMR Engineering College, Kommu Pavan Kumar (20), third year BTech student of Gurunanak Engineering College, both native of Warangal, M Rohit Kumar (20), third year B. Tech student and a native of Khammam, and Mohammed Owais Ahmed (19), a polytechnic dropout from Phoolbagh here. They were addicted to vices and relieved women pedestrians of gold ornaments riding on motorcycle in isolated places at LB Nagar, Chaitanyapuri, Saroornagar and Vanasthalipuram. They were arrested in Sainagar colony. Mr Bhagwat appealed to the citizens to install CCTV cameras under Nenu Saitham project to prevent and detect crimes.
