Three held for ATMs robbery

Three persons including two employees of a cash management services company, who had allegedly stolen Rs.1.49 crore from bank ATMs in which they used to replenish cash, were arrested by the police on Monday.

The accused M Sudheer Kumar (24), Mutha Ashok (26) both employees of CMS agency along with their associate Golla Manoj took away cash from 23 ATM centres located on the ECIL route.

The police recovered Rs.73 lakh, cell phones, motorcycles and household articles from them. As part of their duty, the two workers used to go to ATM centres assigned by the office and deposit cash in the dispensing machines.

Sudheer and Ashok were entrusted the job of replenishing cash in 23 ATM centres on the ECIL route. “As the duo was familiar with passwords and unlocking of the machines, they hatched a plot to steal cash without arousing the suspicion of the company for long time,” DCP Malakajgiri, R Rama Rajeshwari said.

The duo loaded cash in the machines in the morning and would go home but return to the ATM in uniform at night. They would re-visit the ATM centre in the night, key in the password into the machines and open the machines.

“In the last five months the gang managed to take away Rs.1.14 crore. Half of the amount was spent by them,” the official added. The shortage of cash came to notice during an internal audit conducted by the CMS company staff who lodged a complaint with the police.
