Lingamallamma was shell-shocked on the death of her daughter, Sumalatha, and son-in-law, Mekala Madhav, as it was only on Thursday that she left for her village in Nalgonda district after dropping them at their house in New Nallakunta here.
Sitting on the staircase of Gandhi Hospital, waiting to receive her daughter’s body after the autopsy, Lingamallamma said that last weekend Madhav visited their place at Kethepally in Nalgonda district and on Monday the couple along with her retuned to Hyderabad.
He was working as an assistant manager with Syndicate Bank in Vidyanagar branch and was married to Sumalatha in October last year.
On Saturday morning, the Government Railway Police found his body on railway tracks between Jamia Osmania and Vidyanagar railway station and later in the evening his wife’s body was found in their rented apartment in New Nallakunta.
Police suspect that Madhav first killed his seven-month-pregnant wife and committed suicide by jumping before a running train.
“I have no clue about what went wrong in their marital life. They seemed to be happy all the time when I was in Hyderabad earlier this week and even my daughter never complained about him during her stay,” she said while crying inconsolably.
Lingamallamma, who lost her four-year-old son 10 years ago, did not inform her husband, Saraiah, about the death of their daughter and son-in-law as he was admitted to the hospital in Suryapet. “Should I tell him that our beloved daughter was killed by our own son-in-law, of whom he (Saraiah) was very proud of?,” she said.
Sumalatha's uncle Ramesh said that she was staying with her parents in Kethepally, as she was pregnant and the building they live in Hyderabad did not have a lift.
“Their flat was on the third floor of the building and it was very difficult for her to climb the staircase. So, she was living in Kethepally,” he said, adding that Madhav visited her once in a week. Sumalatha completed her degree in science, while Madhav got the job in 2014, three years before their marriage.
Meanwhile, the couple's neighbours said that Madhav never used to mingle freely with the residents in the building and hardly interacted with them.
