Women Development and Child Welfare Minister Ch. Malla Reddy and members of several NGOs taking part in a walk as part of World Breastfeeding Week celebrations in Hyderabad on Sunday.

Women Development and Child Welfare Minister Ch. Malla Reddy stressed the need for providing infants and newborns with mother’s milk as it was the most healthy ingredient that would help in their growth.

Mother’s milk has several qualities that help in developing disease resistance among newborns, the Minister said while participating in a walk organised by NGOs in connection with the World Breastfeeding Week that started on Friday.

Representatives of Dhatri Foundation and other voluntary organisations participated in the walk that was organised to promote breastfeeding.

The Minister said breastfeeding would ensure that a child was equipped with resistance to fight several ailments, and milk available in the open market could no way be a substitute to mother’s milk.

The Telangana government has started a milk bank that was being operated by the Niloufer Hospitals and there was need to ensure larger participation in the initiative to ensure healthy growth of children.

He reminded how the State government has accorded priority to the health sector and said initiatives like Arogya Lakshmi and KCR Kits were part of the measures to ensure better healthcare.
