Men of honour are not just relegated to movies and pages of fiction, they can be found in real life too!

“When we run into such men with immense personal integrity, it’s our responsibility to acknowledge them. No point in generalising that all men have ill intentions towards women,” says actor Chitrangada Singh.

The actor said men are instinctively honest towards women but this trait is seldom nurtured.

“A woman will never forget a man who has stood by her in times of trouble. It’s not just soldiers who have integrity in character and courage. There are heroes among us and it’s a matter of encouraging them,” she says.

Ace shuttler ace Jwala Gutta and actor Sundeep Kishan were also part of the panel discussion on ‘Soldier for Women’, an initiative by Gillette, to inspire men to stand up and respect women.

“For me, my soldier is my father. He taught me everything, gave me enough space and encouragement to pursue my interests. In fact, he played a big role in my mother’s success in business. Inculcating human values from a young age is important,” says Jwala Gutta.

Actor Sundeep Kishan said that there is a good side to all men.

“We should encourage the virtuous side of men. On their part, men should stop being bystanders when women are being harmed,” he said.

Chitrangada Singh recalled how common people can sometimes be saviours.

“We visited a pub in London during a film’s shoot. Things went a little out of hand, as fans chased us for autographs.

“My make-up man Shaan helped me get out of the pub unharmed.

“Later, I came to know that he was guarding my hotel room all night to prevent strangers from gaining access. There is a soldier in every man,” she signed-off.
