‘The offer and the deal’

June 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - HYDERABAD:

A video footage that was played by a Telugu news channel on Sunday night clearly showed Telugu Desam MLA A. Revanth Reddy reaching out to nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson stating that he had been sent by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to strike a deal with him to vote in favour of TDP in the Council election.

The video link, whose source was not known, showed Mr. Reddy making tall claims that he would become the TDP president of Telangana in six months as Mr. Naidu had recognised his worth.

Mr. Reddy asked Mr. Stephenson to accept the bribe amount of Rs 50 lakh as an advance and the remaining Rs. 4.5 crore would be delivered wherever the latter wanted.

In the video, Mr. Reddy promised to take care of Mr. Stephenson if anything went wrong.

The deal between them was 100 per cent confidential. He also assured Mr. Stephenson that he would be given some post but it would take time.

The TDP would even reward Mr. Stephenson with a post at the Centre if he so desired.

Stating that he had been in politics for the last 25 years, Mr. Reddy said senior Congress leader S. Jaipal Reddy was his own uncle and Leader of Opposition K. Jana Reddy a relative. Mr. Jana Reddy promised to back him in the struggle against Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao because the Congress had given up, the video showed Mr Reddy as saying.

It was because of his initiative that the TDP fielded a candidate in the election. The party was well aware of its strength in the election and, therefore, he had come down all the way to talk to him, Mr. Reddy told the member representing the Anglo-Indian community. Mr. Reddy also said he was the financier for TDP candidate Vem Narender Reddy.

He offered to take Mr. Stephenson to Mr. Chandrababu Naidu for meeting all his demands.

Mr. Stephenson would be relocated in Andhra Pradesh if there was any problem to him arising out of the deal.
