First of its kind: The Spicejet flight promoting Telangana tourism launched at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad, on Tuesday.

On Tuesday evening, a flight made a touchdown in the spiritual capital of India, Varanasi, bringing along the flavour of Telangana with it. With images of Chowmallah Palace and Taj Falaknuma displaying grandeur on one side and the impressive architecture and design of Golkonda Fort and Seven Tombs on the other side of the exteriors, the Spicejet flight was wrapped as part of a campaign by the Telangana Tourism Department. In a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, the Boeing with the Telangana Tourism logo on its body will fly to different destinations across India.

The 189-seater aircraft was unveiled by the State Tourism Minister Azmeera Chandulal in the presence of Chairman of Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation, Pervaram Ramulu. As part of the campaign, the aircraft will fly to about eight destinations every day for two months.

According to Burra Venkatesham, Tourism Secretary, Telangana, ₹50 lakh was spent on the campaign to promote Telangana as an ideal tourist destination.

“The idea behind promoting the State is that when tourism grows, the economy improves and jobs increase. Many of the countries survive on tourism and we are awaiting a day when 50% of the revenue and jobs in Telangana will be because of tourism,” said Mr. Venkatesham. The wrap was designed in the United States by Global Onboard after which it was installed in Delhi. The promotional activity does not end outside the aircraft. Inside the flight, one can see the pictures of Laknavaram lake, Jogulamba and Thousand Pillar Temple on the seatbacks and bulkheads.
