Facility likely to come up on 11-acre land in Adarsh Nagar

Telangana will soon have an affiliated club of the famed Constitution Club of India built exclusively for Parliament members and the past members for interaction and exchange of views.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has already written to the Club, seeking affiliation to the one he is planning to construct here and apparently got a favourable reply. It will be exclusively for the present and past MLAs and MLCs while senior officials may also be considered for membership.

The Constitution Club is likely to come up at the 11-acre new MLA quarters in Adarsh Nagar, which is expected to be razed as the newly constructed flats for MLAs have been recently inaugurated. Sources said the old buildings in Adarsh Nagar MLA complex would not serve any purpose and KCR is interested in the place given its vast green spaces and the hill view in the heart of the city.

The issue came up during the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting as well after CLP leader Bhatti Vikramarka wanted the progress on the idea mooted earlier. The process and the progress so far were explained to the members.

Former MP from Mahabubnagar A.P. Jithender Reddy, who is the elected Executive Committee member of the Constitution Club in New Delhi, said the club had the best of the recreation facilities for members and their families while it was also a place for serious discussions and events organised for the members.

The one to come up at Adarsh Nagar too will have all the modern facilities, including conference halls, restaurant, recreation and sports facilities to foster social contacts. The CM is particular that it should be on a par with the one in New Delhi with huge lung space developed. MLAs and MLCs need privacy to spend time with their family members and this would be an ideal place.

The Lok Sabha Speaker acts as President of the Club while there is an elected body from among the past and present members to manage the club affairs. The club to come up in the city is likely to function under the chairmanship of the Assembly Speaker.

KCR apparently asked the TRS MLAs to give a representation to the Speaker so that the issue could be expedited. After Speaker’s consent, the issue would be sent to the Estimates Committee that would give its suggestions and approval.
