A Telangana girl is all set to do her country and State proud when she participates in the Miss World Canada beauty pageant in July. She has already bagged the Miss Northern Alberta World 2017 in March which enabled her to qualify for the Miss World Canada contest.

Sravya Kalyanapu, a 21-year-old B.Tech third year chemical engineering student at University of Alberta belongs to Khammam. She moved to Fort McMurray, Canada, along with her family in 2005 when she was barely 10-years-old.

School celebrates

The beauty queen has a link with Adilabad district as she studied in the local St. Joseph’s Convent School, before the family migrated to Canada. Her teachers remember her as a studious girl who was also interested in cultural activity, especially dance. Her school celebrated her achievement by putting up a flexi banner on its premises and so did her fans in the town.

Sravya’s father Ravi Kumar was an Agriculture Officer at Ichoda mandal in Adilabad district before he gave up the job to pursue a different profession in his adopted country.

Into modelling

Ms. Kalyanapu had been into modelling for three years before she ventured into the world of beauty pageants and won the Miss Northern Alberta crown. Besides, she is the co-founder of a lipstick manufacturing company.

The Miss World Canada contest is scheduled to be conducted in Toronto between July 16 and 23. Her father, who spoke briefly to The Hindu over phone from Canada, hoped Sravya will do well in the competition.
