More transparency in performance evaluation sought

The alleged layoffs in the IT industry is set to see Tech Mahindra employees seeking the intervention of the State Labour Department.

Close on the heels of eight Cognizant employees placing their case before a senior official of the department, a group of employees of Tech Mahindra plan to do a repeat of that on Thursday.

The proposed move, with the support of the Forum for IT Employees (FITE), comes amid IT industry and its leaders denying reports of layoffs and employees forced to resign. Instead, they have been maintaining that the practice is to conduct a performance review that results in exist of some employees.

The industry has also been pointing to how the IT companies are also recruiting people simultaneously.

The employees, however, do not seem to buy the argument. Around 10 employees of Tech Mahindra are expected to meet the Labour Department officials alleging the company of terminating the services of several employees at various locations. Accusing the company of forcing people to submit resignations, they also are questioning the performance evaluation process even while underscoring the need for more transparency.

Like in the case of Cognizant employees, the group from Tech Mahindra that is planning to approach the department comprises those who have resigned and others apprehending loss of their jobs, sources said.

The next round of meeting of the Cognizant employees is scheduled on Friday.

It is not clear whether representatives from Tech Mahindra management team would be present at the meeting.

The company did not respond to mail seeking its response.
