Tainted policeman’s financial dealings take a political colour

The sensational case of finance deals involving some police officials of Karimnagar district is now kicking off a political storm with a ruling party legislator’s name cropping up among the borrowers, and his political opponents demanding detailed probe into it.

In his confessional statement, suspended policeman B. Mohan Reddy stated that he had arranged Rs.3 crore loan, through a businessman, to TRS MLA of Peddapalli, Manohar Reddy, before the Assembly election in 2014.

On Thursday, TDP Karimnagar district president and former legislator Ch Vijayaramana Rao found fault with the MLA for securing loan from Mohan Reddy.

“What did the legislator do with the money collected from Mohan Reddy during the elections and how could he repay such a huge amount within a short notice,” he asked.

Even as the legislator allegedly borrowing money through a policeman raised many an eyebrow, Karimnagar police top brass wondered if Mohan Reddy, presently lodged in prison, is trying to shield some police officials.

Mohan Reddy told the special team of Crime Investigation Department investigating the case that he is unable to recollect the names of some other police officials who deposited money with him and would disclose the same later.

District police officials, unwilling to be quoted, say that Mohan Reddy, who had been working in police department for past 20 years, knew how to protect the ‘big fishes’ (other police officials) involved in his illegal finance business.

But they are confident that Mohan Reddy’s attempt to cover up some police officials will be thwarted by analysing his mobile phone call data record. “He has to explain his links with the frequently called numbers,” they pointed out.
