Surprise checks yield rich haul

As part of the implementation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the elections, the Karimnagar police have conducted a surprise inspection at the RTC bus station complex and seized ₹18.24 lakh in cash from four persons in Karimnagar town on Monday night.

The police recovered ₹6 lakh from Md. Bholesha of Kataram in Jayashankar-Bhupalapalli district.

Though Mr. Bholesha had claimed that they had secured the amount after selling paddy, he could not produce the receipts etc.

In support of his claim. Another ₹1.93 lakh was seized from Ajmeera Mahesh, a Chennai businessman. He told the police that he had come to do granite business in the town.

Police had seized ₹5 lakh in cash during checking from a businessman Rajasthan Bhupal Sharma while on a visit to Karimnagar town, reportedly on business.

The police also seized ₹5,31,700 from Sunil Kumar of Korutla town.

All the seized amount was handed over to district election officer and Collector Sarfaraz Ahmad.

Further, the district police confiscated ₹6 lakh of unaccounted cash while conducting vehicle checks in several parts of Jayashankar-Bhupalapalli district on Tuesday.

As part of the implementation of the model code, police have intensified their efforts to check flow of cash and liquor across the district.

The police teams comprising additional SP Rajamahendra Naik, Regonda CI Srinivas, SI Sudhakar recovered ₹6 lakh in cash from a vehicle on the outskirts of Rupireddypalli village in Regonda mandal.

The cash was handed over to the election commission officials.

Speaking to The Hindu , SP R. Bhaskaran said they have set up check points across the district border to check inflow of cash and liquor.
