The announcement of the constitution of the Satavahana Urban Development Authority (SUDA) by the State government has rekindled hope among the people of Karimnagar town and the 71 villages in the the adjoining areas which would be merged with the town for their all round and systematic development.

At a day-long meeting with the TRS elected representatives and other party functionaries of the integrated Karimnagar district held at Pragati bhavan in Hyderabad, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao handed over copies pertaining to SUDA’s constitution to the district leaders on Tuesday.

Since the formation of Telangana, the Chief Minister has been according top priority for the development of Karimnagar town, which was the epicentre of the Statehood movement.

During his maiden visit to Karimnagar town, he announced the beautification of the14.5 kilometre long R&B roads in Karimnagar town at a cost of ₹100 crore, construction of the first cable-stayed bridge across the Manair river at a cost of ₹183 crore and Manair river front at a cost of ₹506 crore.

Freshly, the constitution of SUDA headed by Collector Sarfaraz Ahmad as chairman and Municipal Commissioner K. Shashanka as vice-chairman had given a fillip for the development of adjoining villages on par with Karimnagar town.

The Karimnagar Municipal Corporation, which has jurisdiction covering a 24.5 km radius, would now be spread over an area of 528 sq. km. with the inclusion of71 adjoining villages from nine mandals — viz Karimnagar, Karimnagar rural, Kothapalli, Choppadandi, Manakondur, Thimmapur, Ganneruvaram, Gangadhara and Ramadugu. After the upgradation of Karimnagar Municipality into a corporation in 2005, the authorities had planned to merge the adjoining 10 villages with the MCK, but in vain.

Proper planning

Now, with the formation of SUDA, all the 71 villages would be merged with Karimnagar town for rapid and planned development with proper layouts, roads, and other amenities. The haphazard growth and constructions in the adjoining villages would come to an end. It would now secure permission from SUDA with proper layout for the development of the villages.
