Urge the State government to fill up vacant teacher posts

Voicing their concern over alleged persistent problems such as shortage of teachers and lack of basic infrastructure at several government schools across the district, dozens of students took to the streets under the banner of Joint Action Committee of Left Student Organisations here on Wednesday.

Students of various educational institutions boycotted classes in response to the State-wide bandh of schools and colleges called by the SFI, AISF and PDSU and took out a protest rally in the town.

Addressing the rally, the JAC leaders alleged that nearly 476 of the total 1,648 schools, including 1,294 State-run schools, in the district were functioning without the requisite infrastructure and basic amenities.

They deplored that around 593 teacher posts were lying vacant in the State-run schools all over the district. Pointing out the “deplorable state” of various government schools, mainly in rural areas, they alleged that the ruling dispensation failed to address the infrastructure deficiencies in several government schools, but constructed a new MLA quarters in a sprawling 4.26 acres of land in Hyderabad at a whopping cost of ₹166 crore.

They demanded that the State government take urgent steps to provide required infrastructure, fill up all the vacant posts of teachers and Mandal Educational Officers for strengthening the government schools.

The JAC leaders sought introduction of mid-day meal programme and upgradation of infrastructure facilities at all the government colleges.

PDSU district president M. Suresh, SFI district general secretary Nagaraju, AISF district general secretary Ramakrishna and others led the demonstration.
