Striking electricity contract staff arrested

Demonstration and hunger strike by the Telangana Electricity Contract Employees’ JAC was disrupted as police reportedly arrested those on strike and other demonstrators from the Mint Compound here on Saturday.

JAC member Sridhar Goud claimed that two members S.Sailu and Venkat Reddy, who had begun fast unto death since Saturday, were arrested and kept in Lakdikapul police station, along with many others.

The Telangana Electricity Contract Employees’ JAC declared strike of work since Monday, demanding regularisation of present contract workers as promised by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, and direct payment of salaries to outsourced employees by the government.
