The management of Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) said the production and dispatches of coal from the mines have not been affected in spite of the strike call given by the national trade unions from June 15. According to sources, higher production was achieved with the available workers as they were offered incentives in the form of extra wages to maintain the production-supply chain.
On the first day of the strike on June 15, the production of coal was 13% higher at 1,72,261 tonnes against the average daily production of 1,52,186 tonnes. Similarly, the dispatches of coal were also 13% higher at 1,85,000 tonnes against the average dispatches of 1,64,000 tonnes, officials of the company said on Friday.
The company claimed that there was no interruption in the supply of coal to all thermal power stations of Telangana State Power Generation Corporation (TS-Genco) by increasing the supply through 15 railway rakes against the daily supply through eight or nine rakes. Similarly, the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) unit at Ramagundam was also supplied 31,000 tonnes of coal on Thursday against the daily average supply of 24,000 tonnes.
Further, the SCCL officials said dispatches of coal from their mines to various power generation stations and other industries were made through 28 railway rakes on the first day of the strike on Thursday against the average daily dispatches through 25 rakes.
Stating that there was no impact of the strike call on the company on the second day on Friday, the officials said the attendance of workers was 12% more compared to the first day on Thursday. The management has also appealed to the remaining workers on strike to join the duty since it would not resolve issues.
