‘Stop further probe against Ravi Prakash’

Justice G. Sri Devi of the Telangana High Court on Wednesday passed a direction stalling further investigation into the criminal case registered by the Banjara Hills police against former CEO of TV9 news channel Ravi Prakash.

The journalist was already arrested by the Banjara Hills police based on a First Information Report issued on October 4. He was remanded in judicial custody and lodged in prison. Mr. Prakash had moved a bail petition which is likely to come up for hearing in a local court on Thursday.

Already, the local court had dismissed a petition filed by the Banjara Hills police seeking custody of Mr. Prakash for further interrogation in the case. Earlier, the police of Cyberabad and Hyderabad registered separate cases against Mr. Prakash following allegations against him over the transfer of shares of the news channel group.

The journalist moved the Supreme Court seeking bail, after the trial court and the HC dismissed his bail petitions. Following the SC direction to approach the HC, he moved the petition and secured anticipatory bail after being instructed to cooperate with the police.

Meanwhile, the Banjara Hills police registered a fresh case against him 11 days ago and arrested him. He filed a petition in the HC seeking quashing of the new FIR. When his counsel Pradyumna Kumar Reddy told the HC that the journalist was arrested again in a fresh case, the judge directed the police to stall investigation in the case till further orders.

The matter was posted for November 2.
