Information Technology & Municipal Administration Minister K.T. Rama Rao on Monday set a target for all agencies concerned for the ‘Viprahitha Brahmin Sadan’ of the Telangana Brahmin Sankshema Parishad (TBSP) to be completed in 12 months.
He was representing Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the Brahmin Sadan that envisages an integrated complex over an expanse of slightly over six acres in Gopannapalli of adjoining Ranga Reddy district. The complex is intended to have facilities for heads of various Hindu religious institutions to stay, a marriage hall, skill development and training space for poor Brahmins and more. The initial estimated expense for the complex is ₹ 10 crore that has been sanctioned by the Telangana government.
Mr. Rama Rao said his father, Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao had been closely associated with Brahmins all through his life. “Asking me to come for this function on his behalf, he told me about how a facility for Brahmins came up in Siddipet when he was an MLA there,” the IT & MA Minister said, adding that the objective was to have such centres in all the districts.
Advisor to government on culture and Chairman, TBSP, K.V. Ramanachari gave a brief insight into how quickly the TBSP was constituted on January 28 and registered under the Societies Act on January 30 and how said unspent funds to the tune of ₹ 100 crore allocated for Brahmins’ welfare in the previous financial year were transferred for the TBSP.
A host of other guests spoke, including MPs Capt. V. Laxmikanta Reddy, K. Visveswara Reddy, Telangana Transport Minister, P. Mahender Reddy, Member of the Legislative Council N. Ramchander Rao and Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Brahmin Welfare Corporation I.Y.R. Krishna Rao.
TBSP vice-president V. Jwala Narasimha Rao welcomed the guests, while pandits chanted verses from the four ‘Vedas’ as the foundation stone was being laid.
As unexpected guest
“I am not here as a Chief Guest, but only as an unexpected guest because I got a call from the Chief Minister’s Office asking me to represent Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao at this function,” Mr. Rama Rao said.
He said because his father, Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao was suffering from an acute toothache and not even able to speak, he was present as a representative of the Chief Minister.
