Goshamahal traffic police station Inspector D. Upender Reddy and three constables were suspended on Monday following a departmental inquiry into an alleged scam of collecting bribes and issuing stickers to lorries, thus allowing them to enter the city during prohibited timings.

The constables are: V. Anjaneyulu, M.A. Mateen and G. Narsaiah, of Goshamahal, Falaknuma and Malakpet traffic police stations, respectively. The ‘sticker scam' came to light during an inspection by DCP (Traffic), Ravi Krishna, when he stopped a lorry near Puranapool noticing that it was plying during restricted timing.

Shocker

Much to his shock, the driver took out a ticker issued by the traffic police on payment of Rs. 500 permitting the vehicle to enter city any time.

After the driver named the constable to whom the amount was paid for the sticker, the DCP record statements of both the driver and the constable.

Departmental inquiry

Subsequently, a departmental inquiry was ordered into the ‘sticker scam'. Mr. Ravi Krishna himself probed the matter and recorded statements of several traffic policemen.

He submitted the report following which Hyderabad Police Commissioner A.K. Khan placed the four policemen under suspension.
