Justice Challa Kodanda Ram of the Telangana High Court on Friday posted for October 31 the hearing of arguments on a single-judge order staying elections to 77 municipalities issued earlier.

Additional Advocate General J. Ramchander Rao mentioned the single-judge order staying elections to 77 municipalities. He requested the judge to vacate the stay order in the backdrop of a judgement delivered by a division bench headed by Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan giving green signal to municipal elections.

Lawyers of the respondents in the case sought time to present their arguments on the matter following which it was posted for Thursday. Three days ago, the division bench had dismissed two PIL petitions seeking deferment of polls in municipalities. When the AAG told the bench that a single-judge order staying elections to 77 municipalities would come in the way of conducting polls to the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), the bench directed the State to get the matter adjudicated before the judge concerned.
