Qualified HIV+ people may get priority in govt. recruitment

Telangana State Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi has given an indication that HIV positive persons with higher educational qualifications will be given priority in the recruitment by government departments.

Mr. Joshi, who flagged off Red Ribbon Run at the People’s Plaza to mark World AIDS Day on Saturday, has directed the Telangana State AIDS Control Society Project Director Preeti Meena to send a memorandum to the government seeking priority to qualified HIV positive persons in the recruitment by government departments.

Students of Nizam College, Gitam, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University and Osmania University and Army personnel, NSS, NCC cadets participated in the Red Ribbon Run of 2K, 5 K and 10K run.

Blood tests

The Telangana State AIDS Control Society organised several stalls giving information about AIDS, HIV, care and treatment extended to the HIV positive people. About 21 lakh people across India were HIV positive and information related to 164 Integrated Counselling and Testing Centres, 22 Anti Retroviral Treatment centres, 142 blood banks across the State were provided in the stalls. Several people also voluntarily underwent HIV test at the ICTC stall and blood test to determine their blood group at the blood bank centre.

Awareness talks were given to the visitors going round the stalls on the importance of using condoms without fail for prevention of HIV and STI and RTI diseases. Several visitors took the condoms kept in the stalls for distribution to people. Several IAS officers, film personalities, Movie Artistes Association president Shivaji Raja and others visited the stalls and appreciated the programmes being organised by the positive network organisation for HIV positive people.
