October 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Commercial Taxes Minister T. Srinivas Yadav has said that the State government was in touch with legal experts to see if it is in a position to run the Hyderabad Race Club.

The government is sharing information with them in this regard, Mr. Yadav told media persons here on Saturday.

The Minister said the government had stumbled upon the idea because the club had a turnover running into crores of rupees, but evaded payment of tax to his department.

On specific information, about 60 Commercial Tax officials carried out raids against 6 of the 24 bookies of the club and recovered Rs. 51 lakh towards evasion of tax.

Evidence gathered from raids will be shared with the Income Tax and enforcement officials.

The details of the six bookies and other details about the club will be made public shortly, he added.
