The Green Building Congress 2019 consisting of a two-day international conference and a three-day exhibition will get under way here on September 26.
The upcoming edition of the premier, annual event of CII’s Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) focused on the cause of green building movement will deliberate on how to green various forms of built environment and explore new growth opportunities in the sector.
Stating this, IGBC Hyderabad Chapter chairman C. Shekar Reddy said over 100 green building products and technologies would be on display at the exhibition. He was briefing the media about the four-day programme, whose curtain raiser is scheduled on September 25.
The Green Building Congress 2019, with Telangana as the partner State, will also open amid expectations of the State government favourably considering the demands of IGBC for introduction of fiscal incentives for green buildings.
To queries, Mr. Reddy and principal adviser to CII- Godrej GBC S.Srinivas said the State government was positive in its approach towards the cause of green building. “Telangana government is positive to our demands, very much in line,” Mr.Reddy said.
‘Green’ Secretariat
Seeking to highlight the commitment of the State, Mr.Srinivas said on an invitation of Telangana government, the IGBC had recently evaluated the new Secretariat project.
“That would be done as an IGBC green building,” he said.
Efficiency of resources
The focus would be on achieving efficiency of resources. The Telangana government has been open to these kind of solutions, Mr. Reddy said, adding how many of the buildings were developed as green buildings, including the Police Command Centre here.
A release said, across the country, over 5,400 green building projects, amounting to 7 billion sq ft are adopting IGBC green building rating systems. It includes over 355 projects, amounting to over 242 million sq.ft. of registered green building footprint in Telangana.
The green building movement in the country have set a target of 10 billion sq ft by 2022, something Mr. Srinivas said is all set to be achieved well ahead of the deadline.
Hygiene labelling
Mr. Reddy said the IGBC and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) were working on a labelling scheme to benchmark marriage halls, restaurants, hotels, IT company campuses and integrated townships under various parameters such as hygiene and sanitation.
The plan is to make it an evaluation tool under the Swachh Survekshan programme.
